Tim, I have a 251 ex-military reconditionesd block in the shop, when I had the pan off to rob the oil pick-up, I noticed the block had a big chunk out of the bottom of one cylinder - looked like it had thrown a rod in a past life, but they still went ahead and rebuilt it, even though there's an obvious mark/crack leading up the cylinder from the missing bit. Only saying this as if it was good enough for them, then I would be sorely tempted.
