I screwed up and got things out of alignment. What I believe happened is I pulled off the cap and was going to put it back on with the plastigage in it, but the oil hole in the journal was were the plastigage would be, so I rotated the crank to get clear journal, then I pulled the piston back on and put the cap on. I suspect that the shifting about got the bearing away from the parting line, and they overlaped when I put the cap back on. I then started tightening it without properly checking the cap/bearing fit. By the time I realized it was out of alignment, it was stuck, I figured alignment problem so I rotated the crank with the nuts backed off, hoping it would seat itself. That worked to some degree, because it did come loose, unfortunately after bending the cap.

I feel confident that I won't make this mistake again.
