I don't think they said the wheel would crack, I think they said the hub on the 1 ton civilian PW was of a different size than the combat wheel and therefore if you used combats on the civilian PW, the PW hub would crack?
Anyway, I think Keith said this was possible if you use the 1/2 ton wheel on the civilian 1 ton PW?
Of course, the original statement didn't specify 1/2 ton wheels, they just said "combats" were a different size wheel that wouldn't fit the civilian PW hub correctly and cause it to crack, which is false.
Now, I don't know how, why or where it would crack?
