They wouldn't have the bearing retainer hole the correct size or the bolt pattern for the NP420. That started in 57 I believe. The early poly would have been the smaller retainer hole like the crash box which the early 5 spds also had but the bolt pattern on the 5 spd had one hole off. The missing hole generally had a lug on the inside that can be drilled and taped but you might as well up grade to the NP420 syncro. The 5 spd was synco in 3 4 &5 but PTO on the pass side only.
