55 Ply vs 49 Dodge engine

My 48 PW has a 55 Plymouth engine in it. It turns freely but the compression is 25-50. I have located a 1949 Dodge engine I can get cheap. Supposedly rebuilt then sat for years and is stuck. I am inclined to start with the Plymouth engine because I know it fits and interfaces with all the attaching components. any opinions here? I am not concerned about originality, just functionality.
