....an old Canadian soldier, and he said they never used "designated terms" for anything in the field, only in written documentation. M37s were always referred to as "Three Quarter Ton Power Wagons". M43s were simply ambulances. Other terms Dad used were things like 25 pounder, one-oh-fives, one-five-fives, shermans, priests, centurians,bren gun, bren carrier, deuce and a half, ten ton Mac ,fifty cal, etc.
I'm sure a lot of that is probably different with US forces. 'Pip' Holmes, a good friend of Dad's who flew 2 tours in Lancaster heavy bombers told me before he died that Canadians, Brits, Aussies, New Zealand air gunners always called their trusty (made in USA) machine guns "Brownings"
