Check for dirt or debris in the carb jets. Debris floating around in the carb can cause the intermittent issues that you have. I had the same problem with a truck. I found a single long fiber sticking out of the main jet. When I pulled it out a ball of fuzz came out with it. Once removed no more intermittent loss of power. The fuzz was a piece of a fuel filter.
