Bob, I have had my truck a little over 5 yrs now, I have broken two short side axles and two long side axles, all with xl michilins on. the best insurence against breaking axles is to have plenty of spares!! broke two short sides within a year, called AB Linn and ordered FOUR new axles(looked like it was going to be a habit) that was four and a half years ago, guess how many I've broken since? yea, none. I bought a long side spare about the same time, yea you guessed that one too. sooo I have come to the conclusion that if you have enough spare parts nothing will break!!! ask Dave H. how bad I beat on my truck at the W.V. rally coming up that big pile of rocks, how I did that without breaking anything is amazing to me.
