Why is it stuck? It's stuck because it has been in there 60 years. It's simple: You need the apply more force than the amount holding it in.

If you think that applying heat is the answer, stick it in a fire. You don't need to turn the thing cherry red to liquefy the grease. It's the amount of heat that you're having trouble developing not the temperature.

Why pay for a new drive shaft when people are scrapping them out all the time? Drive shafts may get damaged, but they generally don't wear out on trucks that seldom make more than 50,000 miles.

Take your time. It's not a daunting problem. When the thing finally pops out, you will say, "That was easy".
