Fish plating a joint is when you bridge the weld with a plate . There are many ways to do this , A rectangle turned so that it looks like a diamond , round or oval plates , long tapered plates . The diamond shape is easy to make , but if you have a torch any shape is pretty easy to create . Tig welding the flanges would be better than wire feed , but if it is fish plated the welding method matters a lot less .
