The Michelin dealer I go to I've been going to for 30 years now. He says the retreads last almost 3 times longer than the original tread. He said up north everyone with 4x4's run recaps front & rear & the reason you see rubber all over the road is that the tires have gotten extremely hot...like not even the same realm as a passenger truck experiences but trailers with huge loads running in extreme heat. He said in the 25 years he's been there he's never seen a recap come apart on a pickup truck. I have no reason not to believe him...it's the biggest commercial truck tire dealer in Vancouver.
