Cut and Paste from MilitaryDodge.com about last weekends Rally: It was good getting to visit with Leonard and Kay. There camp setup was basically a collapsible (into the Ben Hur) Holiday Inn, impressive. Also camping was Glenn and his daughter and Dave and his son, Having not seen either for the year, it was a real treat sitting around our imaginary campfire. Saturday morning we got a late start on the trail ride as to not leave any stragglers behind. At this point, I have to admit, I was doubting the turnout for the event. Leaving my sister to direct arrivals we went on the trail ride to Lost Lake.

We lined up for the trail, light on PW's and WC's. One Power Wagon, Pinzgauer, Hummer, Toyota, and three jeeps set off for the ten miles trail to the lake. Lost lake is a small spring that legend says is bottomless. One of Garrett's boys tried to challenge the bottomless claim. The fire graded trails didn't offer any challenges but were enjoyable with desert and valley views. On the way back we passed a hunter with a nice size doe in his bed. About this time a call came from my sister in a panic because of all the people showing up, looks like we have an event after all.

One of the funnier things to take place was with our camping neighbor. They were parking in a camping spot reserved for us. Upon returning from the trail ride I asked the guy to move the car because my group was rolling in. He insisted the site was his, I replied with 'lets double check'. Minutes later he was with the camp manager getting the bad news. At this point I walked up the him and the manager making sure I was in the clear. Seeing that I was, I informed them both that a "TANK" would soon be rolling in and parking where his car currently resided. The timing couldn't have been and better, just then I saw the Halftrack on the back of a big rig pulling in the higher campground. Why it looked larger than the space shuttle can't be explained but as their eyes turned to it approaching the manager turned to him with a trembling fear and stated "You better move that car and move it now." What makes this sweet is that the car, he and his drunk loud music playing group packed up and left in the minutes. Odd, Saturday nights campers were all around more neighborly than Friday nights.

Saturday afternoon all the truck buddies seemed to be having a good time. My sisters had her company cater the diner, and she knocked it out of the park. Thanks go to her.

Thanks also to those that donated time and silent auction items and also those that bought them.

The last minute setbacks actually gave us opportunity to develop a better direction for the Rally in coming years. This Southern California group seems different than other areas in the we don't seem much interested in awards or raffles or frills, just some traditional easy food and an afternoon to kick tires and chew the fat.

Look forward to seeing you all next October.

Happy Birthday Chris.
