Just start with the basic ignition wiring. Run a wire from the battery to the coil terminal opposite the one with the wire going to the distributor.

You should first disconnect the wire coming from the ignition switch to the terminal to avoid any short circuit. It may also be best to remove any wires, other than the battery cable, going to the post on the starter. The will prevent any frayed wires under the dash from getting current.

Make the connection to the coil terminal with an alligator clip or something similar so you can easily connect and disconnect the wire as this will now serve as an ignition switch.

You may have to replace the wire from the coil to the distributor if the wiring is really bad. If everything is in decent shape, you should be able to step on the starter pedal and start the engine.

Worry about the charging circuit after you get the motor running.
