The machine works in a couple of steps.
First the drum is precisely measured from the hub center to the brake surface of the drum. That measurement is then transferred to the grinder. The grinder frame mounts to the hub, and enables the grinder to incrementally shave the mounted brake shoes until the shoes are in perfect radius with the drum. When finished, the shoe is also adjusted.

I bought mine from a guy who guaranteed that all the parts where there. That's important! When I was finished grinding my shoes, I was amazed how well thought out the machine really was. It actually worked perfectly. Each drum slipped over the shoes with only a slight drag.

Mostly, however, we need this because it is a large old piece of equipment that, when turned on and moving around the hub while shaving the shoe and dust is billowing everywhere and you are thinking to yourself "This thing could kill me," well, it's just too cool.

Besides, if no one here grabs it, some old Ford guy will probably scoop it up.

Also, I strongly suggest that any one using this or a similar device wear a very good particle mask.
