Ok, I have what is believed to be a centered rear axle from a 1/2 ton. I have been studying the brake backer plate, and except for a few differences, they are pretty close. Will a 1/2 ton backer plate work if I just swap the entire axle?

Theres two ways Im thinking of doing this.

I got two 4.89 third members. A centered rear axle. And a disc brake conversion kit.....

To install third member in the front, everything needs to come apart anyway to get it in, backer plate and all. If I install the disc brake kit at that time, I can use the backer plates on the rear axle....

Orr, what is the thought of installing the disc brake kit on the rear axle?? Cut the backer plates off and put the disc brake kit on the rear?? I know common thinking says disc goes on the front, but.....

Just wondering about cutting the backer plates off the 1/2 ton axle.....or if they can be used as is

Thanks
Nick
