I agree about the paint. If a guy wasn't going to start on it right away, and didn't have dry storage, probably the best thing to do is go to Walmart and get a couple cases of spray paint and just spray the whole thing. Any paint is better than no paint. I did that with that D500 that came from Medical Lake. It had the typical desert patina of paint that had been worn off by the sun and the wind, exposing light brown steel, but no rough rust or rust pitting. I knew it would start to rust seriously in the first winter in Wallace, so I just sprayed it with rattle-can paint that actually turned out to be very close to the original color. Somebody other than me will buy that truck someday, will appreciate the excellent sheet metal, and will give it a proper paint job. Meanwhile, it's at least not deteriorating.
