Hi Everyone,
In the last 14 months I have been both amazed and gratified in the support that so many people gave to CAMP DODGE. So much effort and planning has gone into this event, not to mention a lot of money, that I thought that there was no way that we could miss. We had a good size resort rented, we had a first class restaurant to cater the BBQ meal, two major magazines said that they would cover the event and many people had offered to supply gifts and momentos of the event.
However we were missing one last ingredient, people, to attend the event. In spite of the fact that nearly TWO HUNDRED people had written or posted that they would attend, only 29 actually came through with a deposit. Out of those 29, 9 have had to cancel after the fact. Of the magazines, one reporter was released and the other transfered. Things could be worse, the resturuant owner that was going to cater the BBQ actually died. I don’t know how much of this is my fault, but I cannot blame anyone, things happen, fuel prices go up, jobs are lost, health problems come up, all are things beyond our control. Because we had such a large anticipated turnout I put a lot of effort into this and probably made it too big of an event for the first time out. We needed 60 confirmed attendees by June 1st to break even, we got only 20. So it is with much sadness that I am forced to cancel the event.
If you sent a deposit in, I will be returning that in the next several days. There is not much to say beyond that except that I will continue to work to make The 61-71 Dodge Truck Association a reality. If nothing else was accomplished, we have all made a lot of new friends and we have another nice web site to go to
and talk about our trucks. I will say that I am very grateful to the people that wanted to attend, and I feel very sorry for those of you that were looking forward to attending this event. This is a huge disappointment for me but I am not discouraged and I hope that we can try this again in the future.
Yours Truly,
MoparNorm
