Assuming it's an older truck, have you replaced the flex hoses in the brake system? Beside being brittle with age, hoses can become restricted on the ID with age. This acts as a "check valve" and can hold pressure. Replace them. Cheap insurance. Also, check the little hole in the master cyl reservoir that's in front of the bigger hole that lets the juice into the piston area. This balance hole can get plugged. When the piston is retracted, this hole allows any system pressure to be released. That pusher rod should have about say, 1/4" of motion before it contacts the master cyl piston.
