I can well understand the frustration of being outbid. Happened to me on a few ebay auctions for parts I needed, some of which I'm still looking for (like an NOS M37 speedometer, NOT a later one with Kph markings).

Anyway, depending on where the business is located, the owner may have to pay INVENTORY tax on his goods. This is also a factor that raises overhead. (My solution was limited production so I never had an inventory tax, but that's another story.) There comes a point that if the vehicle is there too long, the profit starts getting eaten up by taxes. And all business owners have bills to pay. So there may be a time when a low ball offer is jumped on by the owner.

I'd suggest seeing what Doug has and make him a low ball offer on it. The worst you'll get is declined. I'll bet he'd make a good counter offer. And I would suspect his descr1ptions of the trucks would be more honest than those found on ebay (and boy are there some real imaginations out there). Also, often times a dealer will have pre-screened the truck for problems, like a blown rear end or broken axle or a syncro that unworks, and either fixes it, tosses in a replacement part or adjusts the price. A good dealer will do this, anyway.
