If you think you are bidding on something that a trader may want, the only possible technique is to put in an embarrassingly large bid to fend off all opposition. I consider myself quite poor (by US standards anyway) but I've done this in the past on Dodge stuff and related items.

Remember a trader will have to buy it and then spend money re-selling it, and has to use his / her judgement as to the values.

If someone paid more than you for a truck and is going to sell it on again that means the successful bid was still below their opinion of the resale market value so there's no way out for you.

I see so many trucks for sale on e-bay that there can't possibly be a shortage of Dodges to buy, and I've seen early / rare / interesting trucks go for a few hundred dollars which isn't big money anywhere in the world these days. Some of them have been so cheap I've brought one or two to Scotland.

I buy a lot of parts from dealers and don't begrudge them their markup - they all have to make a living and many do act directly or indirectly to support the hobby.
