Its hard to say who has built the largest diesel engine. The largest are used to power ships in the marine applications. As ships have grown larger in recent years so have the diesels. It is not uncommon to just add more cyliders to an engine to get more HP. I've worked on the Sultzers, BW's, and MAN's. I do this for a living, and work in the steam turbine vessels as well. I've worked on ships that have 120,000 shaft Hp.
There is always a newer bigger better engine being used in the new construction. The instant you make that biggest claim there is a larger one.
