Until recently, I drove about 60k miles a year. Every truck I've had for the last 20 years has gone 200k-300k before I would trade it and none of them ever reached a point where they used any oil or had any engine wear problems. The engines always outlasted the rest of the truck. I do 80% highway driving and change the oil at 5k intervals. I always used either Valvoline or Penzoil 10W-40, until about 1993 when I switched to 10W-30 because the engines were designed for it (tighter specs).
