Fuel Sending Unit

My fuel tank sending unit works very erraticly. Is there any where to get it repaired or find a replacement? When you ground the wire from the sending unit the guage in the dash snaps over to full, this is what it is supposed to do, right?
I am working on a 1955 C 3 PW.
