How about the interviews during the premier? The director and Cuba Gooding Jr. both describe the black sailor's actions of manning a gun when he was only trained as a cook, and cooks weren't allowed to perform combat functions. I was under the impression that it had nothing to do with being a cook. I believe that at that time blacks were not allowed to hold any combat jobs and were never trained in the use of weapons. I was surprised that they wouldn't acknowledge that fact, or if they did, the media decided not to broadcast their comments.
