Personally I'd do a test patch with soy based stripper flushed away by low pressure hot water, then let it dry.

If you really want to part with about $15,000 you can get into Dry Ice blasting, might be able to rent a machine for $5,000 if you have a source of ice near by since there is no work out there for the last 2 years.
Ice is best suited for work like removing dead varnish from large motor windings or generators since most potential residue from the media evaporates away. You can figure on spending $1,500 to $2,500 on ice and compressed air learning to use ice, because it is similar to no other media.

Soda, the new whore of Insurance carriers, is loved by carriers because soda just sounds so good and masks burn stink so well, for long enough to get the Insured to sign off. Soda -v- moss, mildew and or mold, Soda Looses. It removes what can be seen and leaves what's in the poroscity.
BIG THING you need to know about Soda, it KILLS all vegitation it touches, including flower plants, grass, and any other desired green thing.

If you think of the Pac Man gobbler you can understand how soda functions, each grain gobbles 1 chunk of dirt as it impinges. Soda is good for removing soft coatings, and is low impact with no peening.

If you absolutely insist on media blasting logs, begin with ground corn cob and if that doesn't work move up to ground walnut shell.
