Sterling, take your dis. cap off and stare at the stuff under the cap. what you are looking for is any thing that might move, a loose wire bumping against the side of the dis. would cause a problem, make sure that the copper band from the points is not bumping anything else in there, also, if the condenser is starting to break down it will do what you are describing, change it out and try again, it's a remote chance but I have found two in the last 45 years, so it does happen. my dis. rotor will turn back and forth 3/16 or so without moving the advance weights. something else to look at, although remote. I had a 230 in a 49 truck that ran fine cold for about 7to 8 minutes, until it warmed up, the valves needed to be loosened up a few thousants, they get hot and lose compression on the exaust side, how did you do yours? the truck I had did not back fire or miss, would idle fine, would not move the truck out of it's own tracks. so it can happen. thats pretty much all I've got now not having the truck in front of me. also, when you are trying stuff to figure out whats wrong, only do one thing at a time, good luck with it. P.S. check the point gap and make sure that is right. Dave.
