You're exactly right Mark...over pricing anything & putting it on the market for too long until it gets stale is the worst thing you can do. Same as with the housing market...a property or vehicle needs to be priced sharply & ultimately you want to create a bit of a hype around it. If you put it on the market & don't have interest the first week...get it off the market promptly & lower the price, do some repairs, revisit your approach on how you've marketed it but don't let it sit there for sale for a month or more.
You'll notice also that on Ebay, the first run through is the highest it will ever go...you're end selling price will never reach that height the second or third run through & that's why it's important to email & talk with your bidders & be sure you don't have some asswipe bid & then not come through.
I've sold 790 items on Ebay & never yet had a dead beat bidder...but I've cancelled lots of peoples bids who don't respond to email.
