Ethanol is a "super cleaner" that will dissolve lots of that old, nasty, greasy, dirty, cruddy, filth that has accumulated on parts. Plus its a lot easier to justify the "use it once" method when 85/15 Ethanol blend is less than $3 a gallon. Id say its a good choice for stuff you don't want to put in the more expensive parts washer. I see nothing wrong with using gasoline as parts washer as long as you take the necessary precautions.

Something like don't use indoors, wear fuel resistant gloves, don't breathe the fumes, watch your spills, don't use near flames, get rid of the rags properly, don't play with sharp objects, never mount an out dated radial, turn the power off before working on electric, always set the parking brake, don't speed, never flat tow, don't open haul in a pickup, don't forget to read the manual....
