Mike, Bob jr in Mo. on this forum on occasion has a external slave small block ZF so they did make them but I have never came across one myself, yes the 2wd transmissions are the common ones for sure, keep looking on craigslist because the 4wd ones do come up. I'll keep my eye out and if I find one I'll provide a link for you. Also Bob in Indy has a 4bt he just put in his 1966 chevy truck and he has the big block Zf with external slave he may be able to get you a picture of the adaptor plate used on the 4bt to use that transmission with the 4bt.
