My FFPW (B4) has been sitting for many months as she has undergone some retrofit(s). I had installed an electric fan unit a couple of years ago because of the need for a cooling system that would fit in the tight space between the radiator core and block after transplanting the later 251ci engine in place of the original 230. Over time I decided that I wanted to go back to the mechanical based system-belt driven fan as the Flex-a-lite fan looked so ugly and that horrible buzz even with the motor off. After acquiring the low mounted water pump, a 251, crank pulley (thank you Dennis Sherman), modified my alternator bracket and radiator outlet, new fan belt, I am ready to go- hopefully. I also removed the electric fuel pump on the frame and replaced the original fuel pump. Something about electric fuel pumps bothers me- If the trucks were designed with mechanical ones then they should be there IMO. However I can't get her to start. I put in fresh gas, I think that the fuel pump is sick so a new one is coming from VPW. Will a new pump be able to sart the fuel flowing or should i fill the glass bowl first as a way to "prime" it. As for the electrical system, with the ignition on, I find that there is current flowing through to point. I can lift the points where they contact and get a spark. have not yet checked to see if I get a spark at the plug while cranking the motor.
Any and all ideas appreciated.
