they are overrated and poorly built. yes they are capable off road vehicles before the frame rots away and the engine begins to fail. see what the bad guys are using in africa and the mid east these days? - toyota four runners and nissan patrols. both available with small diesels. whatever will survive in the desert is what becomes the vehicle of choice. no doubt you can build up a land rover, but at what price? the nas rovers are well over 100k.
