While it was in dry-dock at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard. Our company supplied boom lifts for the painters in the dock and a couple other trades as well. I performed maintenance on the lifts.
When they re-floated the ship they inadvertantly left one of our lifts under the keel.
The New Jersey was an impressive ship to wander around on. Easy for a non-sailor to get lost.
While they were flooding the dock that day, Herman the German got loose from it's moorings and started heading out into the harbor.
