If you do decide to try fixing it, I would bet that John Bizel at Midwest Military has these rivets, or might know where to get them. I know I got a bag of similar rivets from a rivet company place in Chicago once that I found on line. THere is a vast quantity of all sizes of rivets out there.
You would need to take a small piece of scrap 3/8" thick steel and drill a small "hollow" in it part way through to hold the head of the rivet once you put it in place. THen, after heating its shaft red hot, hit the end of the rivet on the other side with an air hammer and it will peen it down.
I did an article on this a few years back in PWA.
