I hope you read what Tom in Oregon said about career not being everything. That is excellent advice. I could have pursued college, and chose not to. I went into custom home building, and my two sons have followed me into that line as well. If you have a chance to work with your dad, and you both get along, you will learn what you need to continue in that field. Money isn't everything, although it sounds like your girl friend might think it is. You need to asses things right now to decide if you feel that way too. If not, things could be hard in that relationship. True success is not in how much money you make, because that usually comes at the expense of many other things, such as time with your family, time with your interests, and even health problems. Nothing beats having evenings and weekends with your family.
