My Son has a 2000 Audi A6 Quattro. He has mentioned recently that the steering wheel jerks and the car shudders when he hits the brakes. It is worse at higher speeds. He came out to the shop this afternoon and we took a look at it. Front brakes looked fine, pads were all very good sized and evenly worn, rotors also looked good, I checked the runout on the rotors and both were out two thousanths. I dont think that amount would cause these symptoms. I had redone the rear brakes about 6 months ago but pulled the rear wheels to check just in case. Everything looked good and the runout was about the same as the front. The only play I could find wasthe passenger side front wheel, if grasped at 9:00 and 3:00 there was a slight wobble. I would attribute that to a work wheel bearing. Up and down had no play. I took it for another test drive and swerved back and forth. this will usually make wheel bearing noise come and go as you load and unload the bad bearing. I heard absolutely nothing. I am pretty baffled with this.
Thanks in advance for any insight.
Tim
