I had that combination on my '49, and drove it for a few years like that. The 230 engine was freshly rebuilt and seemed to do ok. Prior to that, for a short time, I had a somewhat worn 230 with 5.83's and 9 x 16 tires, and I'm not sure I could tell a whole lot of difference between that and the later setup, but again, that first setup was only for a short time. It seemed somewhat underpowered either way, ha, ha, but I never felt it was excessively so, even with the 4.89's and 11 x 16 tires. With the 4.89's, rebuilt engine and 11 x 16 tires, I could get on the freeway at 57 or 58 mph and I just stayed in the right lane. Around town, even with a heavy load, it seemed to do ok, but needed down-shifting on many of the hills. I had the VPW cam, which they said would help with engine power at freeway rpm's, and perhaps it did.
