Exactly. When I was 15 I had a car I was fixing up(still own it today by the way. Dad wouldn't let me spray inside the garage so I did all the sanding by hand as I didn't have a file board or DA. Blocked it all out and sprayed it outside. Paint was smooth as glass EXCEPT the bugs decided to use it as a landing pad and drug trails through it. I was sick.

Decided to take it to a high end shop in our area. Asked them what brand of paint they used and if they'd be willing to just shoot the topcoat in their booth. They agreed and I hand sanded it to bare again and reblocked everything with new primer. Took it in and 3 days later I went to pick it up.

Couldn't believe my eyes as there was DEEP swirl marks everywhere and primer showing in the lower areas. I went back in and asked the manager to look at it. He then relayed to me the painter said that was the way it came in(the swirls} I then asked him to bring the guy who did it out. He came and reiterated that I had done them. I then told him I did it all by hand and didn't even own a DA. I looked him straight in the eye and said, "You are a liar." Manager looked at me and looked at him and said he'd take care of it.

That is when I said I'll build a paint booth if I ever do it again. I did and do NOT regret it. I literally cringe anymore on hiring work done. It's a sadly a total crapshoot anymore.
