Our local Lake Pend O'Reille covers some 90000 acres and is known to be around 1200-1300' deep. It is fed by the Clark's Fork River, which is held back by a power dam and is full of Northern Pike. I have caught at least 8 and had numerous other encounters, while fishing for bass. The fish and game warden that patrolled the area I fish in for several years didn't believe me when I told him I caught some. "No way there are Northerns in here." I was putting them all back, but one day one of them died while I was removing my lure. I hunted him down and showed it to him. I think he wanted to accuse me of catching it in the river and decided it wasn't going to be a good idea to call me a liar. :) They are so into tourist fishermen from out of state that want to catch a big trout that they don't have time for any other species.
