Not sure where you are, but if it says "hem-fir", odds are that it's western hemlock, a wood that used to be considered excellent for making paper, and not much else. In my grandpa's logging days, they didn't even bother yarding it. They'd just cut it and burn it with the slash, even if it was old-growth. During WWII they started using to make dissolving pulp for gunpowder, but it wasn't until probably the 1970s that they started using it for construction. It's okay for framing that's completely covered and has no chance of getting wet from leaky pipes, roof leaks, or condensation. Otherwise, it'll be compost in short order. If you can find any stamped "D FIR-L", that's the kind to get. The local Home Depot and Lowes here sell it, because even those big chains do tend to buy from the nearest mills.
