Are you sure the heat riser is set to "summer" (no carb heat?) or if it's an "automatic" heat riser that the spring is working and the shaft isn't stuck? Along with all the likelier possibilities, it could be vapor lock from the carb getting too hot. This tends to get worse after it's set a little bit and there's no air flowing past it. It's a long shot, but easy to check.
