You are doing the right thing by reaching out. It sucks, but you have to give up dignity and keep asking.
I think of depression kind of like throwing your back out - it happens because of a combination of bad luck and bad habits, and it's easy to get bad advice, not to mention bad treatments.
I hit bottom when I was 40 and thought it was all over - the whole world just looked sad and shitty. I had turned stress into a habit - I was just clueless about anxiety (some of it for good reasons) and it wore me down. I hear an echo of that when you said two weeks of vacation and nothing accomplished.
Everyone is different, but you'll figure it out eventually by comparing notes and (best bet) finding a pro who understands what your unique mind is doing to you.
