that is problaby where the issue lies. the linkage might need to be cleaned and lubed I think that is why they went back to twin stick in 60 or 61 till 69. if it were mine I would convert it to twin stick. never any issues. I think 57 and 58 were twin stick so probably just a bolt in to change
