I plan to go this route myself. I've used the painless system before on Jeeps and was happy with it. Haven't studied their current offerings yet for my 55 C3, but will soon. I think it adds safety as well as the ability add "stuff" easily later if desired.
I too will be interested to hear from anyone that has done this on the old iron.
