I was always going to make an adapter that bolted to the back of the crossmember where the rear PTO pillow block bolts. It would be a receiver with the hole for the pin & then I was going to take a pintle & weld a piece of 2" stock to the back of it & silver solder the bolt heads to it so it still looked like it was bolted to the crossmember but instead, the 2" stock welded to the back was inserted through & a pin holds the pintle in...like a regular hitch. Then I was going to build a custom drop hitch for my trailer. The only part different is it would need to be longer so it would reach through the crossmember so you could insert the pin from the back...you follow?
If you have the hitch in you can haul however much load that rear crossmember can handle & if you have the pintle inserted there's no heinous ugly modern receiver bolted back there like you've spent too much time over at Pep Boys or sumthin :)
