I had a friend stop by Sunday with his 16 year old son to borrow my equipment trailer. The young man was pretty excited to see the Power Wagon, and I might have made his day when I offered to give him a ride. We hopped in, cranked it up, and drive around a bit and everything is fine.

So I look over at him and said "want to give it a shot?". His reply was "Do I need to double clutch it", which tells me he has some interest or knowledge in old trucks since he at least knows what double clutching it. Being a late '56 no need for that though....

Not knowing his skill level with a clutch, I shifted the transfer case into low gear and gave him the drivers seat. He put it in first, and quickly realized that would not really work... So he puts it in second, starts out, shifts to third (rather poorly, but he did it) and then to fourth.

All is going well, we're a few minutes into the ride, he slows down, stops, and has to start up again.

Next thing I know, smoke is billowing into the cab! Not interested in a lot of drama, I had him get out and I shut the engine off.

When I got in the drivers seat to try to figure out what the heck was happening I realized he (me....) never released the parking brake when we switched drivers, and in low range the brake just slipped since I don't set it too hard!

I hope I did not scare the kid too much and I hope I managed to hook another youngster on our trucks.

The parking brake is now well broken in!
