If it's not real bad trying to fix it is the easiest way. As others said trying to remove it intact is really tough.
Mine was really gone so I built a new one, I built a template and had a local shop cut and bend the pieces and then assembled and welded it in the frame. The advantage is that I could make some improvements, but it doesn't look anything like stock, and it's far more expensive and time consuming then fixing what you have.
