I've heard no lube in the pilot bushing hole is best for bronze bushings. Supposedly, grease clogs the pores of the bronze. So, I don't use grease. But, I'm pretty sure lots of people put in grease. I wouldn't put in much though if you decide to do so. One way to get the pilot bushing out is to fill the hole with grease then drive in a tight fitting rod. Plus, grease is not a good thing around clutches. I suspect the "factory" recommendation about using grease will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.

I put on a thin coat of grease for the throw out bearing to slide on.
