True, the jeep name came from the Popeye cartoon character but was in use long before willys ever made a jeep. The GP designation was for the Ford jeep and never used on the Willys, G= govt. vehicle and P= 80" rconnaissance car. The W was later added to indicate the use of the Willys design engine. As for the rest, check the patents done by Ford and used by Willys, as well as the Federal Trade Commission records in the 40's and you will see it is true. All Willys did was take others' work and make their own version, then claim it all for their own.
