While hitting the local garage sales, I came across a young man who was selling some Volkswagen parts that he had left over from a rebuild on his car. I also have an air-cooled Volkswagen, so I got talking to him.
He seemed like a nice kid. He said he had graduated from Wyotech and had been looking for a job, but had had no luck. In the meantime, he was living with his parents in a small two bedroom apartment. I know it's pretty hard to find a job around here, especially for someone just starting out.
I have a lot of small mechanical projects that I never seem to get around to. I offered him a part time job working in my home shop for an hourly wage. When you look at what a minimum wage is nowadays (not enough to live on), it's not much, but maybe it will get him started and on his way. I even flatter myself to think he might learn something.
He starts tomorrow. Hopefully, it will work for him and me.
