Parts would have to stay in exactly the same position relative to each other for tens of thousands of miles with no lubrication for that to happen.
I use 4-wheel-drive enough that the parts do not take a "set". Even greasing a couple of times a year gets everything rotated to a new position during the process. Even if I did not do that, very cold mornings will cause everything to rotate slowly even without the hubs locked in.
I'll file that in the old wives tale drawer.
